Dhaka Comicon is back guys! This Time, Its “Bigger and Better”!
A hitchhiker’s guide to Dhaka Comicon, its genesis, its influence and what to look up to as we move through the inter-galactic space and timeframe portal to Dhaka comicon 2013
An idea is nothing but a virus and pop culture is one such virus that pretty much no one can escape from in our modern times, hyperlinked by connectivity. And if so Comic Con is hence forth the petri dish of the virus. Comicon has been known all over the world (and maybe beyond, haha!) as the ultimate Pop culture event in the Universe! Boasting an arsenal of video games, movies, comic books, anime fashion, music, and the iconography of anything pop culture that makes us wow and wonder, it’s every enthusiast’s wet dream! This had only been a farfetched dream for many starry eyed enthusiasts on the country. However, it all changed by the revolution that has been been created by Mr. Saadi Rahman (of Incursion music) and Mr. Syed Abu Yousuf (of Roll Out); back in 2012, unsure of what the response might be like and with only a small amount of funds from their individual companies Dhaka Comicon 2012 opened its gates and witnessed a crowd of 10,000 strong! Over the 2 days. And to top it all off, these weren’t your everyday run in the mill crowd! They were actual enthusiasts who spent months putting in their valuable effort, time, and money on bringing their favorite pop culture icon to life through the cosplay, be it belonging to movies, animes, games or music. If comic con is the body then these enthusiasts are the heart and blood of comic con. They are the people who make every comic con all over the world so special and unique to the others!
The founders have always known that the interest was there and was all so ever present. We Bangladeshis are a big chunk of the mass media consumers; however, one may get the feeling that we are rather non-existing to all these media and icons. Dhaka Comicon celebrates the power of the youth culture, its unification and the taste and preference of the people that celebrates it with the love and appreciation we have grown in our heart for all these icons we see beyond the borders of the LCD screen or the paper.
Post Dhaka Comicon 2012, we witnessed the emergence of numerous local characters in the formats of comic books, cartoons, games, and action figures, not to mention the birth of similar conventions as well as the opening of the very first toy museum in Bangladesh: Dhaka Museum of Toys (Click Here to read more on that)

After receiving an overwhelming response from Dhaka Comicon 2012, Mr. Saadi Rahman saw it as an opportunity to bring to life one of his lifelong dreams which is to open Dhaka’s (and hence BD’s) first ever Toy Museum. The Dhaka Museum of Toys first opened its gates on July 2013 with an incredible collection of Mr. Saadi’s lifelong collections also boasting an incredibly unique and one of a kind promo for it made by Flybot Studios (pop culture enthusiasts, big time!)
